Sleeping on your stomach forces rotation of the spine. Sustained rotation causes muscles to tighten and creates muscle imbalance. Always shoot for a neutral spine (normal spine shape) when sleeping. To achieve a neutral spine sleep on your back using one pillow to support the neck and another pillow under the legs to support the lumbar lordosis (curve in low back), or try sleeping on your side with a pillow between your legs.
